Roadmap of Power Electronics Knowledge and Skills

A “Y” model roadmap has been developed to identify the knowledge and skills required for a power electronics engineer. This will help the curriculum developers and the learners to formulate a learning journey to fit into this discipline with high confidence.

The developed roadmap has basic knowledge that includes Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics and Control Theory in parallel to skills that should be called at each point of the learning journey, which include Diagnostic, troubleshooting and practical bench skills, PCB design, Simulation and Software programming. For power electronics, in particular, more deep knowledge is required about the power semiconductors, their material, operation, driving and testing, Converter topologies and their analysis, High-frequency Magnetic design with some consideration for EMI, EMS, Reliability and stresses.
