Nexperia Visit

On the 22nd of March 2022, Stein Hans Nesbakk from Nexperia visited Sheffield Hallam University during one of the developed workshops to achieve awareness about the required skills and knowledge in the discipline and also to prob the students’ understanding after they have gone through the developed curriculum.

Dr. Walid started introducing him to the new curriculum framework and the developed coursework and educational kits. Stein has given his reflection on how this newly developed curriculum fits and suits the recruitment plans of Nexperia and bridges a gap on a component level that they are interested in.

Stein started with an introduction about himself and his career journey and then elaborated to talking about Nexperia and its business and customers.

Through his talk, he introduced technical information and sensed interactively the interaction of the students and their response to the information. He was happy with their information and answered about the topic of Basics of MOSFET driving and Double Pulse Testing.

He has shown different industrial prototypes that have been served to customers or for bespoke designs.

He ended up with interviews hints to help the students to identify good practices and skills to secure good jobs in this power electronics discipline.

Based on a developed survey and targeted the students replies, 100% of the students showed strong agreement that the visit brought attention to how their developed skills fit in that discipline.

Stein said “I found it exciting that the students are finally learning fundamental concepts such as double pulse testing which always appears in power electronics. The students clearly understood the basic operating principles of the circuits and components, however, I believe that the students require more confidence in their own understanding. Confidence in what you do and don’t know is key and can also be learned/developed by more practice and time.

On another day Stien with another colleague from Nexperia but different background shared their experience about the Power Electronics industry and some advice on the career.
